This infamous club is frequented by numerous Hollywood celebrities and is part owned by Johnny Depp. The club is where River Phoenix spent his final hours before he collapsed and died of a drug overdose on the pavement outside, on October 31st 1993 - he was 23 years old. The payphone outside the Viper Room was used to call an ambulance.

Less than four months after River Phoenix' demise the Viper Room made the gossip columns following an incident in which TV star Nicole Eggert got into a fight with another girl over a mutual boyfriend.

On October 1st 1996, a paparazzi snapped the Rolling Stone's Mick Jagger embracing actress Uma Thurman inside the club.

The photographer alleged that Mick's bodyguard wrestled him to the ground and club employees confiscated the camera and film and handed it to a member of the Stones' entourage, who destroyed the film.

The photographer claimed the photo would have been worth $1 million, and sued both Jagger and the Viper Room. Mick settled out of court, but a jury later ruled against the club, and awarded $600,000 in damages to the photographer.

The Viper Room was previously know as 'The Melody Room' and was used in the 1940's by gangster Bugsy Seigel as an illicit gambling den.
